TIPS TO STICK TO YOUR EXERCISE REGIME

We all have been told about the benefits of exercise for improving mental health, losing weight, improving glucose metabolism and keeping our bones healthy. But how many of us have actually stick to doing regular exercises? Sometimes, it is because we try to fit into someone else’s shoes or follow a recipe which may not work for us!! There are many tips and tricks which we recommend to our clients to keep moving and stick to our regime.

These can be implemented RIGHT NOW and help you get on, and stay on the road to living the life you want and need.

1. Find what you like!!

When it comes to exercising, our mind immediately thinks we should start long runs or join a gym straight away. Whilst these are great ideas, it may not suit you to do this today and set you up for failure. Finding a routine that you actually enjoy is the KEY to sticking to it. It shouldn’t feel like a chore, or something you have to force yourself to do. Experiment with lots of different ways of exercising and find what works best for you!

A few ideas are:

  • Take a walk in your local area.
  • Try swimming.
  • Join an exercise class, whether it is with a fitness trainer, gym or with your physiotherapist.
  • Play a social sport with friends or people with similar interests.
  • Take up dancing.

2. Form the habit!

When you have found what you like, aim for at least twice a week. As they say, it takes 28 days to form habit. Be flexible with yourself. Start your day with exercises, or do them in your lunch break or maybe do it end of the day?

3. Don’t be hard on yourself.

If you skip a day or miss a class, that’s okay!! Look at the bigger picture of being consistent. Celebrate small wins when you have achieved milestones like finishing two classes for the first week, doing walks for the whole month or buy a new pair of runners when you have completed your routine for a while. Every bit counts.

If you have a pre-existing injury or feel that you need an extra push to make a decision, why not discuss with a health professional about starting your fitness regime in a safer and more receptive way!! Give us a call on 8555 4099 or book online at Inner Strength Bayside for more information.
