What is Physio Led Exercise?
Whether you suffer from chronic low back pain, painful knees, are recovering from surgery or have recently had a baby, Physio Led Exercise (sometimes referred to as Clinical Pilates) is likely to help you build strength, improve your mobility and get you moving and feeling better.
At Inner Strength Bayside our physio led exercise sessions involve a group of up to four patients completing a range of exercises that have been individually prescribed and supervised by one of our physiotherapists.
The exercises may include:
- Clinical Pilates based exercises using reformers and trapeze tables
- Exercises using other equipment such as foam rollers, fit balls, therabands, pilates rings
- Yoga and general stretching
- General strengthening exercises.
What to expect when you start
Our physios at Inner Strength are all Pilates trained and use this knowledge along with their exercise prescription skills to help create your ideal individualised exercise program.
Initial Assessment (45 minutes)
At your initial assessment the physio will ask you a range of questions followed by a thorough physical assessment to comprise a program that is suited to achieving your goals whether this is aimed at pain management, improving function or post natal recovery.
Follow up one on one sessions (30 minutes)
After you have completed your initial assessment the physio will use all the information they have gathered to create a plan. You will likely then complete one to two 1:1 (one on one) sessions in the studio where they will go through your individualised program and ensure that the exercises are right for you. We find that most people (depending on experience) require approximately two sessions 1:1 to ensure that they are comfortable with the exercises and using the equipment but obviously this may vary from person to person and your physio will discuss this with you.
Once you have completed your individual sessions you will be able to join a group physio led exercise session (up to 4 participants). These 45 minute sessions are directed by one of our physiotherapists who will continue to guide you regarding your technique and adjust your exercises as appropriate.
6 week review
After around 6 weeks from your first class, we will book you in for a 30 minute 1:1 review where we will check on your progress and see if your program needs any tweaking or new challenges.
We require all physio led exercise clients to complete at least one 1:1 review annually where we can re-assess your progress, update your goals and ensure you are getting the most out of your sessions.
