Rebuilding Strength After Cancer: A Glimpse Into Cancer Rehab Exercises

If you’ve been through cancer treatment, “getting back to normal” can feel like a vague, distant goal. What does it actually look like? For a lot of people, it starts small: carrying groceries without pain, playing with a grandchild on the floor, walking the dog without running out of breath.

In this video, we show a few of the cancer rehab exercises (including mat work, the trapeze table, and the reformer) we use to help rebuild that strength, mobility confidence and quality of life. Each cancer rehab program is tailored to our client’s needs and goals. 💪

Why exercise is part of cancer rehab

Exercise isn’t just “good for you in general” during and after cancer treatment — it’s increasingly recognized as an active part of recovery.

Structured movement can help:

  • Rebuild muscle strength and bone density lost during treatment
  • Reduce cancer-related fatigue (counterintuitively, movement helps more than rest)
  • Improve balance, mobility, and joint range of motion
  • Support mental health, mood, and a sense of control during a hard time
  • Rebuild confidence in the body after surgery or treatment side effects

This kind of programming is typically used with people who are:

  • Prior to surgery or treatment to help prepare the body – the stronger you go into it, the stronger you come out!
  • In active cancer treatment and looking to maintain strength and function
  • Post-surgery and rebuilding mobility
  • In survivorship and want to safely return to sport, exercise, or daily activities they’ve missed.
